NOAA Issues Winter Storm Warning Nov. 19

National Weather Service Logo - ImageThe National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning on November 19th, 2010 for the Park City, Utah area.  The higher elevations such as where the Black Bear Lodge is located in upper Deer Valley are expecting 10 to 20 inches.  This should really add to the base snowpack for Deer Valley Resort’s upcoming opening on December 4, 2010.

…Winter Storm Warning In Effect From 7 AM Saturday To 5 AM Mst
Wednesday…

The National Weather Service In Salt Lake City Has Issued A
Winter Storm Warning For Heavy Snow And Strong Winds…Which Is In
Effect From 7 AM Saturday To 5 AM MST Wednesday.

• Affected Area: The Wasatch Mountain Valleys.

• Snow Accumulations: Total Snow Accumulations Between 10 And 20
Inches Are Expected Between Saturday Morning And Tuesday Night.
Locally Higher Accumulations Of 2 Feet Or More Are Expected In
Areas Favored In Southwest Flow Such As The Ogden Valley.

• Timing: Snow Will Develop During The Day Saturday Across The
Wasatch Mountain Valleys. Periods Of Snow…Heavy At Times…Will
Persist Through Late Tuesday Night As A Series Of Cold Storm
Systems Parade Through The Region.

• Snow Levels: Snow Levels Will Start Out Around 6500 Feet Across
Northern Utah Saturday Then Fall To The Adjacent Valley Floors
Saturday Night…And Remain There Through The Duration Of The
Event.

• Winds: South Winds Will Become Very Strong During The Day
Saturday…And Gusts In Excess Of 50 Mph May Occur In The
Mountain Valleys. Winds Will Diminish Some On Sunday And Monday. Very
Strong Winds Could Redevelop Along And Behind The Cold Front For
Tuesday.

• Impacts: Blizzard Like Conditions Are Possible At Times Across
Portions Of The Wasatch Mountain Valleys Saturday Through
Tuesday. This Will Likely Make Travel Difficult If Not
Impossible At Times. Snowfall Tuesday Through Tuesday Night Will
Also Have An Impact On Those Getting An Early Start For Holiday
Travel. Additionally…Strong Winds Expected Saturday Through
Saturday Night May Result In Downed Trees And Power Lines.
